Over the past week, there have been false images appearing on social media created by artificial intelligence (AI) tools that depict Donald Trump. These images wrongly depicted the arrest of the former president, who may face indictment over payment of hush money to a woman he allegedly had an affair with. Many of those who shared the images stated that they were fake and they did not seem to fool many people, but a few were tricked. On his social media platform Truth Social, Mr Trump also shared an AI-generated image of him kneeling in prayer.
To distinguish a real image from a fake one, look for obvious giveaways such as inconsistencies in the body parts. AI technology is not very good at depicting certain body parts, particularly hands, and when you zoom in on the images, you can see these inconsistencies, such as the number of fingers.
