The group opened six stores internationally, one Castorama store and eight Brico-Dépôt stores in France.
During the year, Castorama returned to sustained growth in sales and, even more so, in earnings. Finally, 1998 was the year of the merger with Kingfisher. The French group thus became the European leader and number three in the world in DIY.
